Luvme – A Luxurious Beni Mrirt Moroccan Rug in Salmon, Teal & Mustard

Introducing Luvme, one of the most quietly spectacular pieces in our collection. This exceptional Moroccan rug belongs to the prestigious Beni Mrirt rug tradition — widely regarded as the most luxurious handmade rug in all of Morocco. Luvme is hand-knotted by master weavers in the Beni Mrirt tribal region of the Middle Atlas mountains, using 100% natural, locally sourced wool that is renowned for its exceptional softness, extraordinary density, and incomparable plush depth.

What makes Luvme truly extraordinary is its composition: a painterly, almost meditative colour-block design that feels more like an abstract watercolour painting than a traditional rug. A rich teal and sage-blue band occupies the upper field, transitioning through a golden mustard accent stripe into a vast, luminous salmon and dusty rose lower expanse. There are no hard edges, no crisp lines — just beautifully organic transitions, achieved through the rare skill of the Beni Mrirt weaver working with naturally dyed wool. Luvme is a luxury Moroccan rug for those who understand that the most profound design statements are often the most restrained.

Why Beni Mrirt is Morocco's Most Luxurious Rug

The Beni Mrirt rug is produced exclusively in the Beni Mrirt tribal territory in the Khenifra province of Morocco's Middle Atlas mountains — one of the most remote and altitude-elevated weaving regions in North Africa. Several factors combine to make Beni Mrirt the gold standard of Moroccan handmade rugs:

  • Exceptional wool quality: The sheep of the high-altitude Middle Atlas produce wool with an unusually long fibre length and naturally high lanolin content, resulting in a pile that is extraordinarily soft, lustrous, and naturally resistant to dirt and wear. This is wool that cannot be sourced anywhere else.
  • Extreme pile density: Beni Mrirt rugs are knotted at a significantly higher knot count than most Moroccan rug styles, producing a pile so thick and dense that it feels almost cushion-like underfoot. This density also means exceptional longevity — a well-cared-for Beni Mrirt rug can last a lifetime and beyond.
  • Master craftsmanship: Beni Mrirt weavers train for years before producing pieces of this quality. The precise control required to create Luvme's seamless colour transitions — blending teal, mustard and salmon without a single hard edge — is a skill that takes a lifetime to perfect.
  • Natural dyes: The exquisite palette in Luvme — from the cool mineral teal to the warm organic salmon — is achieved entirely through traditional plant and mineral dyeing, ensuring colours that age beautifully and never fade aggressively.

Styling Luvme: The Art of Quiet Luxury

Luvme's colour palette — teal, mustard and salmon — is one of the most harmonious and interior-design-forward combinations of our time. Here is how to use it:

  • Minimalist or Japandi interior: Against bare plaster walls, white linen and natural wood, Luvme's painterly colour-block becomes the room's entire identity. No art needed — Luvme is the art.
  • Warm neutral living room: The salmon lower field works beautifully with terracotta, warm beige and earthy ochre — use the mustard stripe to tie in amber or honey-coloured accent pieces.
  • Coastal or nature-inspired home: The teal upper section evokes sea, sky and horizon. Pair with driftwood tones, linen and ceramic to create a serene, nature-connected interior.
  • Bedroom centrepiece: Under a king or queen bed, Luvme's tonal gradient creates a layered, luxurious foundation — particularly beautiful in a bedroom where the teal echoes a feature wall or textiles.

Ideal Room Size for a Moroccan Rug

Luvme is a versatile mid-to-large format rug suited to:

  • Living rooms of 3.5×4.5 m or larger — ideal with front sofa legs on the rug
  • Dining rooms accommodating 4 to 6-seat tables with generous border coverage
  • Large open-plan spaces where it defines a seating or relaxation zone
  • King or queen bedrooms with the rug extending on three sides of the bed

Caring for Your Beni Mrirt Wool Rug

Your Beni Mrirt rug is one of the most durable and long-lasting floor coverings available. To preserve its extraordinary beauty:

  • Vacuum regularly using suction only — never use a beater bar on the deep pile.
  • Rotate every 6 months for even wear and colour preservation.
  • Blot spills immediately with cold water and mild detergent — never rub.
  • For deep cleaning, professional hand-washing is strongly recommended.
  • Use a quality rug pad underneath — the thick pile deserves proper support.

The journey of 10 weeks making our Rugs

Step 1: Preparing the Wool - From Raw Fleece to Fine Yarn

The wool is carefully combed to remove any debris and to align the fibers. This is a delicate process that requires patience and attention to detail, ensuring that only the finest, cleanest fibers are used. Next, the wool is carded—a technique that further aligns and separates the fibers, creating a soft, airy material that’s ready for spinning.

Step 2: Dyeing the Wool - Infusing Nature’s Colors

The next step in our journey is dyeing the wool. This process involves dipping the wool into our handcrafted natural dyes, which are heated over an open fire. As you’ll see in the accompanying GIF, the wool is carefully stirred to ensure even coloration. This step is crucial for achieving the deep, rich colors that make our Beni Ourain rugs stand out. We take great care to avoid any chemicals, ensuring that each rug is as natural and safe as possible, from the fibers to the final product.

Step 3: Weaving the Rug - Crafting Beauty Knot by Knot

Weaving a Beni Ourain rug is an intricate and labor-intensive process that demands skill, patience, and precision. Each rug is crafted knot by knot, a technique that has been passed down through generations. Creating a 6x9 ft rug can take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the complexity of the design. Our talented weavers are among the few in the market who can replicate a design from a picture with up to 95% accuracy, a feat that’s nearly impossible to achieve elsewhere. This dedication to craftsmanship ensures that every rug we produce is of the highest quality, truly a work of art.

Step 4: Trimming the Rug - Perfecting the Pile

Before the rug is washed, we meticulously trim the piles using large hand scissors to ensure they are even. This step requires great skill and precision, as the weaver trims each section carefully to achieve the desired texture and smoothness. By evening out the pile, we enhance the softness and uniformity of the rug, ensuring it not only looks perfect but feels luxurious underfoot. This final touch adds to the rug's beauty and durability, making it truly one-of-a-kind before moving on to the washing process.

Step 5: Washing the Rug - Ensuring Purity and Safety

Washing the rug is one of the most critical steps in our process. Sadly, 80% of rugs on the market are never washed, and of the 19% that are, many are treated with harmful chemicals to enhance their appearance. At our workshop, we wash each rug 4 to 5 times using only water and natural soap. This thorough washing not only purifies the rug but also ensures that it is safe for your home. We want you to have peace of mind knowing that your rug is free from harmful chemicals and truly clean.

Step 6: Drying the Rug - Embracing the Sun’s Warmth

After washing, our rugs are carefully hung under the Moroccan sun to dry. This natural drying process takes 2 to 4 days, depending on the weather. We let the sun do its work, slowly and gently, ensuring that each rug is dried evenly and thoroughly. If it rains, we simply wait, because there is no rushing a process that’s been perfected over centuries. This step ensures that your rug is as natural and fresh as possible, capturing the essence of the Moroccan landscape.

Step 7: Final Inspection - Preparing for Its New Home

Before a rug leaves our workshop, it undergoes a rigorous inspection to ensure it meets our high standards. A well-made Moroccan rug is meant to last for decades, and we take this responsibility seriously. We check every detail to make sure it is fit to be called an authentic Beni Ourain rug. Only after this thorough inspection do we prepare it for shipping, confident that it will bring warmth, beauty, and comfort to its new home for years to come.

Each step in this 10-week journey is a labor of love, a testament to our commitment to quality and sustainability. By the time your Beni Ourain rug arrives at your doorstep, it has already been through a process steeped in tradition and care, making it more than just a rug—it’s a piece of art with a story to tell.

About OunizZ

OunizZ | Brand Story
Although OunizZ was launched in Marrakech at the end of 2019, our story goes back millennia to when the first Berber rugs were created in the 7th century. Drawing on the romance of history, traditional craftsmanship, and a commitment to creating an equitable future for the women who weave Moroccan rugs, OunizZ was created to share the story of Morocco with the world.
With a focus on empowerment, sustainability, and heritage, we’re committed to stocking ethically-made fair trade rugs woven from cruelty-free sheep’s wool. In addition, our highly-skilled weavers have over four decades of experience in handwoven textiles, representing ancient wisdom passed down by generations of powerful women.
OunizZ is a story of love—for Morocco, her traditions, and her people—written by our founders for the country they hold dear. Each of our rugs is custom-created to tell a unique story about our history, heritage, and land. This is ours.

Celebrate Morrocco’s Rich History
OunizZ founders, Sonia and Oussama, share a deep love for beauty and nature, both of which are abundant in Morocco. From snow-capped mountains and untouched deserts, to pristine beaches and ephemeral wetlands, OunizZ is on a mission to share the country’s hidden gems through exceptionally crafted Moroccan rugs, Beni Ourain rugs, and Boujaad rugs.
Sonia was working in the hospitality industry when the pandemic swept the world. The thousands of travelers who journeyed to Morocco each year were unable to buy the one-of-a-kind handmade items that enriched the local economy, while weavers (some of them Sonia’s family members) were unable to sell their textiles and put food on their tables.
When Sonia lost her hospitality job, she realized she could uplift hundreds of women, returning their financial independence and ability to practice the craft they had honed over decades. She and her husband Oussama founded OunizZ with the vision of transforming the industry and exporting Moroccan rugs to the world and, within a year, the company grew into the largest exporter of rugs in the country.

Bringing Transparency to the Moroccan Textile Industry
While Moroccan rugs have grown in demand over the past few decades, the art form has been under threat. This is because the overwhelming majority of companies selling Moroccan rugs online are not the makers—instead, they are intermediaries who buy rugs at low prices.
Moroccan rugs are traditionally made in rural areas with little access to education and employment. Many of these weavers do not know the market value of the rugs they create. As a result, the women who create Moroccan rugs become invisible in the industry, seldom benefitting from their sales and rarely making enough to sustain their families.
At OunizZ, we don’t—and never will—source rugs through intermediaries. Instead, we work directly with weavers to ensure they are paid fairly. Our Moroccan rugs, Beni Ourain rugs, and Boujaad rugs are custom-made for OunizZ, and crafted in our weavers' own homes, where they work with their mothers, sisters, and daughters. This empowers them to pass on generational wisdom while working at their own rhythm and caring for their families and communities.

Welcome the Spirit of Morocco to Your Home
Beyond our commitment to creating an equitable industry that champions economic security and uplifts the custodians of the tradition, we believe that Moroccan rugs are an ode to the country’s rich history. We see it as our duty to protect and share it with the world.
Our Moroccan rugs are available in countless sizes, colors, and patterns, each informed by the areas in which they are woven. From the thick shag rugs created in colder regions to the flatweave rugs originally crafted by nomadic tribes, each Moroccan rug tells a unique story about geography, heritage, and the weavers’ artistic expression.
Whether you want to make a bold statement with a bright Moroccan rug or complement your space with a handwoven neutral rug, shop the OunizZ range of ethically-made fair trade Boujaad rugs, Beni Mrirt rugs, Beni Ouarian rugs, Azilal rugs, and vintage rugs for long-lasting works of art that elevate any space.
